| Think of Scotland and in the mind's eye many a visitor will think of this as the land of tartans, of mountains and lochs with many a picturesque road to be taken through the straths and glens, and an opportunity to take one's ease and enjoy a veritable kaleidoscope of scenery. |
| To others this is a place to delight in the recreational facilities offered by the excellent golf courses, none so popular as the links of St. Andrews, home of the game. Enthusiastic wielders of wood and iron will find no lesser challenge to be had in lots of the small courses to be found in almost every town and village from the borders to the northern isles |

Sportsmen will seek the quiet solitude of river bank, loch, in pursuit of the elusive salmon, trout or tread the remote highland mountainside for a sighting of the majestic red deer. | ![]() |

Several of the larger lochs now provide the visitor with opportunities to indulge themselves in water-sports, be it ski-ing, sailing, or wind-surfing. Yachtsmen find the west coast ever more attractive for away from the bustling marinas there is charm to be found in the smaller anchorages in the many bays of a plethora of islands which make up the archipelagos of the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Here too beachcombers find a chance to get away from it all in the paradise of secretive coves and wave caressed sands of gold or silver such as Luskentyre in Harris, or the wild remoteness of Sandwood. |

| Scotland's rich and turbulent history is preserved within the walls of many old castles, Eilean Donan, Blair Atholl, and Edinburgh being some of the most notable. Seek too the ruined walls of the older fortifications be it the brochs of the northern glens or the early settlements of the Orkneys and Shetlands. Here too ancient standing stones speak of a land occupied from the dawn of history. |

Whatever your pleasure, after a day's outing it is time to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere so why not sample some of the fine malt whiskies which are Scotland's gift to the world of good cheer. Many of the producers open their doors to visitors and whatever your preference - the distinctive flavour of a Speyside matured in a sherry cask, or the pungent peat reek of the Islay malts - | ![]() |
